Short answer: Yes. No TSA or UK airport rule bans RFID blocking wallets, card sleeves, money belts or neck wallets. Expect to take them off or out: standard TSA screening puts your items on the X-ray belt, and UK airports such as Gatwick ask you to remove belts. Zip them into your carry-on and put them back on afterward.

Are RFID blocking wallets and sleeves allowed through airport security?
Yes. An RFID blocking card sleeve is a thin laminate that sits inside your wallet, and a money belt or neck wallet is a fabric pouch with zips. None of them is a restricted item at US or UK airport security. They are screened like any other wallet or pouch.
What changes is where they travel while you are screened. A sleeved card can stay in your wallet, and the wallet goes on the X-ray belt with everything else. A money belt or neck wallet worn under your clothes is the part that needs a plan, because anything worn on the body can draw a second look.
Do you have to take off a money belt at airport security?
In most lanes, yes, and it is easier if you do it before you reach the tray. At US airports, the TSA says standard screening requires you to remove all items and place them on the X-ray belt. In TSA PreCheck lanes you can keep belts and light jackets on, but a pouch worn under your shirt can still be flagged by a body scanner, which usually means a pat-down.
At UK airports, Gatwick, for example, asks passengers to remove coats, jackets and belts so they can be X-rayed with their hand luggage. Equipment and procedures vary from airport to airport, so check your departure airport's security page before you fly.
Our advice is the same for a money belt and a neck wallet: take it off before you join the line, in a restroom or a quiet corner, and zip it inside your carry-on bag rather than leaving it loose in a tray. Put it back on once you are through.
Can cards stay in their RFID sleeves through the X-ray?
Yes. There is no need to take cards out of their sleeves for screening. Leave them in your wallet, and send the wallet through with your bag or in the tray like any other wallet.
The same goes for the bonus sleeves that come with our money belt (6 card sleeves and 1 passport sleeve) and neck wallet (3 card sleeves and 2 passport sleeves). They stay on the cards and passport wherever those go.
Will an RFID sleeve stop the e-passport gate reading your passport?
Yes, while the passport is inside it, so take the passport out first. Automatic passport gates, such as the UK's ePassport gates, read the chip in your passport. A passport sleeve is built to stop that chip being read, so it will stop the gate too.
Slide the passport out of its sleeve before you reach the gate or the officer's desk, then put it back in afterward. The same applies to a hotel key card or transit card that lives in a sleeve: take it out to tap.
What is the smoothest way through security with a money belt or neck wallet?
Plan the hand-off before you reach the line. A simple routine:
- Before the airport: the money belt holds your passport in its sleeve, a backup card and most of your cash. The neck wallet holds your boarding pass, phone and the card you will use that day.
- Before the line: move your passport and boarding pass to your hand. Take off the money belt or neck wallet and zip it inside your carry-on bag.
- At the tray: put the bag on the belt last, so it comes out of the X-ray when you do, and keep it in sight.
- After screening: step aside or find a restroom and put the money belt back on, flat under your shirt.
- At passport control: take the passport out of its sleeve for the gate or the officer, then slide it back in.

Frequently asked questions
Can I wear a money belt through the body scanner?
You can, but anything worn under your clothes can be flagged by a body scanner, which usually means a pat-down. We suggest taking the money belt off before screening, zipping it inside your carry-on bag, and putting it back on afterward.
Do I need to take my cards out of their RFID sleeves at security?
No. Cards can stay in their sleeves inside your wallet, and the wallet goes through the X-ray like any other. You only need to slide a card out when you want to tap or insert it.
Will an RFID passport sleeve stop the e-passport gate?
Yes, while the passport is inside it. Automatic passport gates read the chip in your passport, so slide the passport out of its sleeve before the gate and put it back afterward.
Is it safe to put a money belt in the X-ray tray?
Zip it inside your carry-on bag rather than leaving it loose in a tray, put the bag on the belt last, and keep it in sight as it comes out of the X-ray.
Do UK airports follow the same rules as the TSA?
No. UK airports set their own procedures within UK rules, and equipment differs between airports. Gatwick, for example, asks passengers to remove coats, jackets and belts for X-ray. Check your departure airport's security page before you fly.
